My Story

It is my vision that we will help individuals and families as they carve out a pathway to the road of success for many years to come.

I feel that helping others to succeed and reach their day -to -day goals should be the very core of our existence. Networking and partnering with individuals and businesses who share the same vision will make it possible to do the impossible throughout our community.

I am no stranger to hard times and what it takes to make it through.

I was raised in a rural area by my grandparents who were on a very modestly fixed income. It took the help of many resources to make ends meet. We were fortunate to have had the help of family through the rough times. I know what’s it’s like to have kids laughing at you when the bottoms of your shoes are falling off. Or when all you have is the one pair of shoes to wear each day and there be no other option.

Given the climate of my social life, I spent more time divorced than married. This made life complicated at times and led to me being a single parent for most of my son’s life. I understand the challenges that come along with that lifestyle. I know what it’s like to be a few hundred dollars short on tuition and am told that if you cannot pay; your child will have to sit out.

Finding my motivation to start PENNYS HEART was not hard at all. It has always been inside me. Each time that I’ve gone through something, I would always say that if ever fortunate enough, I would pay it forward. I’ve spent many sleepless nights thinking of ways of how to give back.

My individual journey of giving started with small gestures such as; giving people on the streets my spare change, sharing my lunch with homeless individuals and for years I have donated much of my wardrobe to women’s shelters, including things that still had the tag attached. I kept finding other ways to help, but I always tell myself that I could do more. My many volunteer efforts led to me becoming a recipient of the Denver 7Everyday Hero award in August, 2019.

Through PENNYS HEART I am now able to fulfill all that has been inside my heart the whole time. To ease the pain of the struggle for others is a cause worth fighting for.
